For our engineering team in Porto, we are looking for an Electrical Design Engineer with experience in EPLAN. In this role, you will work remotely from Portugal for a leading Dutch engineering company active in heavy lifting, offshore/marine cranes and hoisting equipment.

You will be involved in the electrical design of complex lifting systems used in demanding environments such as offshore, marine, wind energy and heavy industry. This is a great opportunity for an engineer who enjoys technically challenging projects and wants to work on high-end equipment where safety, reliability and precision are essential.

What you will do

As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for creating and maintaining electrical designs in EPLAN. You will work closely with mechanical engineers, automation engineers, project engineers and the Dutch customer team.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Creating electrical schematics in EPLAN Electric P8;
  • Designing control cabinet layouts, terminal diagrams, cable lists and BOMs;
  • Working on electrical systems for cranes, hoisting equipment and heavy lifting solutions;
  • Supporting the selection of electrical components, sensors, drives and control systems;
  • Working with motor control, VFDs, safety circuits, limit switches and load monitoring systems;
  • Preparing technical documentation for production, commissioning and service;
  • Reviewing and updating drawings based on project changes, client specifications or as-built information;
  • Contributing to safe, reliable and maintainable electrical designs;
  • Collaborating with international engineering teams in English.

We are looking for an engineer with a strong technical mindset and a practical approach to electrical design. Experience in heavy lifting or offshore/marine equipment is a plus, but not mandatory. Relevant experience in machine building, industrial automation, material handling, shipbuilding or heavy equipment is also highly valuable.

You bring:

  • At least 2 years of experience as an Electrical Design Engineer, EPLAN Engineer or similar;
  • Good experience with EPLAN;
  • A technical background in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics or a similar field;
  • Experience with electrical schematics, control cabinets, cable lists, terminal diagrams and BOMs;
  • Knowledge of industrial components such as drives, sensors, motors, safety relays, PLC I/O and control systems;
  • An interest in working on cranes, hoisting systems and heavy lifting equipment;
  • Good communication skills in English;
  • A structured and accurate way of working;
  • The ability to work independently while staying connected to an international project team.

Nice to have

The following experience is considered a plus:

  • Experience with offshore, marine, cranes, hoisting systems or heavy machinery;
  • Knowledge of standards such as IEC 60204-1, IEC 60204-32, EN ISO 13849 or IEC 62061;
  • Experience with Siemens, ABB, Schneider, Rockwell, Pilz or similar systems;
  • Experience with safety circuits, functional safety, drives or motor control;
  • Interest in new technologies and future engineering possibilities, such as AI, automation tools or digital engineering workflows.

You will become part of Xelvin Portugal and work from our office in the Porto region. From Portugal, you will contribute to engineering projects for a Dutch customer, while being part of an international and growing engineering environment.
