For our engineering team in Porto, we are looking for a Structural / Calculation Engineer with experience in structural analysis, strength calculations and mechanical engineering. In this role, you will work remotely from Portugal for a leading Dutch engineering company active in heavy lifting, offshore/marine cranes and hoisting equipment.

You will be involved in the structural verification of complex lifting systems used in demanding environments such as offshore, marine, wind energy and heavy industry. This is a great opportunity for an engineer who enjoys calculations, load cases, structural behaviour and technically challenging equipment where safety, reliability and strength are essential.

We are looking for an engineer with a strong analytical mindset and a solid understanding of structural mechanics. Experience in offshore, cranes or heavy lifting equipment is a plus, but not mandatory. Relevant experience in steel structures, machine building, heavy machinery, shipbuilding, material handling or industrial equipment is also highly valuable.

You bring:

  • At least 2 years of experience as a Structural Engineer, Calculation Engineer, Mechanical Engineer or similar;
  • A technical background in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Offshore Engineering or a similar field;
  • Experience with structural calculations, strength of materials and mechanical behaviour;
  • Knowledge of loads, forces, moments, stresses, deflection and structural verification;
  • Experience with steel structures, welded constructions, bolted connections or heavy machinery;
  • Ability to read and review technical drawings and 3D models;
  • Experience with calculation tools and/or FEA software;
  • An interest in working on cranes, hoisting systems and heavy lifting equipment;
  • Good communication skills in English;
  • A structured, accurate and analytical way of working;
  • The ability to work independently while staying connected to an international project team.

Nice to have

The following experience is considered a plus:

  • Experience with offshore, marine, cranes, hoisting systems or heavy machinery;
  • Experience with boom structures, pedestals, A-frames, winches, lifting tools or large steel structures;
  • Knowledge of standards or guidelines related to cranes, offshore equipment, steel structures or welding;
  • Experience with FEA tools such as ANSYS, FEMAP, Abaqus, RFEM, SolidWorks Simulation or similar;
  • Knowledge of fatigue, buckling, dynamic loading or offshore load cases;
  • Experience with class approval, client specifications or technical calculation reports;
  • Knowledge of welding details, material specifications, coating or corrosion protection;
  • Interest in new technologies and future engineering possibilities, such as AI, automation tools, digital engineering workflows or calculation automation.

You will become part of Xelvin Portugal and work from our office in the Porto region. From Portugal, you will contribute to engineering projects for a Dutch customer, while being part of an international and growing engineering environment.
